Presently my work at UCD comprises the study of rogue waves in the North Atlantic Ocean. One of the objectives of my research is the study of the evolution of the extreme wave region in the North Atlantic. In addition, I am researching the Andrea and Draupner rogue waves in the North Sea, which are ones of the few evidences in nature which confirm the existence of rogue waves. In particular, I am researching the different characteristics of this extreme event, its generation and peculiarities. The research is being developed by using numerical simulations (spectral wave models), wave records retrieved from a radar, wave buoys and satellite altimetry data.
